We are in the beginning phases of establishing an institution to help you generate the resources needed to cover your communities in a manner that serves your readers.
As you may know, several news outlets have been looking into augmenting their coverage with financial backing from philanthropic organizations and individuals. Journalism Funding Partners wants to be a bridge to this funding by raising money and then awarding grants for news projects. JFP also would be a clearing house for newsrooms that have identified funding, but need an agent to handle the funds.
We intend to provide guidance as opportunities for funding arise and work with you to develop best practices for making successful applications for outside funding of journalism projects.
Applications for JFP grants will be considered on a rolling basis and newsrooms may apply throughout the calendar year. JFP will consider projects as money becomes available through fund-raising efforts, and other contributions to JFP.
Projects must be submitted by newsrooms. Our grants are to support local news and applications can come from news organizations from across the U.S. Eligible recipients will include print, broadcast and online news outlets. Preference will be given to local news projects that are original and dedicated to issues not being covered in depth by local news organizations. JFP grants will be paid directly to the organization.
